“Brilliant Beasties”

Inspired by the brilliant beasties from the picture book “Kevin” written and illustrated by Rob Biddulph, here is my micro-story for the two I’ve named Hairy Fairy and Slimy Mo.

Here’s Hairy Fairy and Slimy Mo,
They’re at the Best Beasties Talent Show.
Mo is nervous, she’s started to melt,
Hairy Fairy’s angry, he forgot his belt.
‘…And the Best Bestie of them all,
Is Frilly McNilly and his beat box call.’
‘Oh,’ groaned Mo. Hairy Fairy huffed..
Then everyone was shh’d, and hushed.
‘Runners up, Hairy Fairy and Slimy Mo,
You are brilliant beasties, bravo!’
There were claps, whoops, yay’s and cheers,
The party began, with cold beastie beers.

“Ironic, Tiger”

Inspired by the animal scene from “Here We Are: Notes For Living on Planet Earth”, the beautiful picture book written and illustrated by Oliver Jeffers, here is my micro-story for the tiger.

Tiger had been looking forward to the festival,
He had counted down the weeks all year.
His favourite band were now playing on stage,
But Frog was ribbiting in his ear.

“Bear Necessity”

Inspired by the picture book Oi Dog!, written by Kes and Claire Gray, and illustrated by Jim Field. Here’s my micro-story for the brilliant bear family.

When their kitchen table was lost in the post,

Mr and Mrs Bear had to improvise.

Breakfast on the stairs was surprisingly good,

It had started to feel quite civilised.

“Talulah Wild”

Inspired by the picture book Where the Wild Things Are, written and illustrated by Maurice Sendak, here’s my micro-story for the red-headed wild thing I’ve called Talulah.

Talulah had been to the hair salon,

She wasn’t sure about her new do.

It felt strange as she swung through the trees that day,

But by nightfall she felt fierce and cool.

Now,

she’s coming for you!.

“C for Cat”

Inspired by the picture book Wild, written and illustrated by Emily Hughes, here’s my micro-story for the wild-at-heart cat I’ve called Clive.

Clive was tired of being told he was a cat, when

He knew he was a TIGER.

He had a plan to prove everyone wrong, it involved a race,

Then jumping on Bear to frighten her.
