“Dot and Boy”

Inspired by the little dog from the board book “Each Peach Pear Plum, by Janet and Allan Ahlberg, here is my micro-story for two of the littlest characters.

Dorothy, known as Dot,

Was a tiny, misunderstood dog.

She blew raspberries at everyone for fun,

But they just found it odd.

One day she befriended a tiny,

Misunderstood little boy.

Who wore a uniform with a hat,

And blue trousers in corduroy.

Now that they are a pair, they’re

Invited to things like picnics.

No longer misunderstood, they

Make sense as each other’s sidekicks.

“Brilliant Beasties”

Inspired by the brilliant beasties from the picture book “Kevin” written and illustrated by Rob Biddulph, here is my micro-story for the two I’ve named Hairy Fairy and Slimy Mo.

Here’s Hairy Fairy and Slimy Mo,
They’re at the Best Beasties Talent Show.
Mo is nervous, she’s started to melt,
Hairy Fairy’s angry, he forgot his belt.
‘…And the Best Bestie of them all,
Is Frilly McNilly and his beat box call.’
‘Oh,’ groaned Mo. Hairy Fairy huffed..
Then everyone was shh’d, and hushed.
‘Runners up, Hairy Fairy and Slimy Mo,
You are brilliant beasties, bravo!’
There were claps, whoops, yay’s and cheers,
The party began, with cold beastie beers.

Sausage Dog Stories

May
26

I’ve drafted so many versions of my Sausage Dog Stories, all incomplete, but I can’t and won’t shake the concept. At least this little poem remains true to all of the incarnations. In the meantime I think I might just be getting to the heart of what I want these stories to be, watch this space.

Wolfy & B

Wolf and Bear; an inseparable pair.

One smooth haired, one wire haired,

Both short legged, without a care. (more…)
