Short Story: First Signs

This is a short story I submitted to a competition a few months back, the theme was ageing.

Show me how to measure my life in something other than years.

The words held my eyes captive from their place in the poster facing me on the bus. They were part of a spiritual campaign to inspire prayer and self connection. I did feel self connected, it had stopped my breath and I couldn’t blink. It was like finding the words to finish a sentence that had been hanging unended. (more…)

Created at Femi Martin’s “Writing a Spring Short Story” workshop on 5th April 2016, part of the Creative Writing series at the South Bank Centre, London. The resulting stories are a little dark, this wasn’t intentional but clearly reflected my imagination that evening, they are in the order in which I wrote them.

Escape to Nature

The man sunk his bare feet in to the sand. The little girl watched from behind the wild flowers in the dunes, chewing on her hair. He turned at a sound and found her eyes. (more…)
